The iShares MSCI Brazil Capped ETF (the “Fund”) seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of Brazilian equities, as represented by the MSCI Brazil 25/50 Index (the “Index”). The Fund invests in a representative sample of securities included in the Index that collectively has an investment profile similar to the Index. Due to the use of representative sampling, the Fund may or may not hold all of the securities that are included in the Index. We show 411 historical shares outstanding datapoints in our coverage of EWZ's shares outstanding history.

Understanding the changing numbers of EWZ shares outstanding — and comprehending the concept of differing number of shares outstanding in general comparing companies like EWZ versus peers — is critical for investors. Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies.
