| First Trust NYSE Arca Biotechnology Index Fund is an open-end management company. The Fund seeks investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield of an equity index called the NYSE Arca Biotechnology Index (the Index). The Index is an equal dollar-weighted index designed to measure the performance of a cross section of companies in the biotechnology industry that are primarily involved in the use of biological processes to develop products or provide services. As of Dec 31 2013, the Fund's total assets were $983,610,857 and the Fund's investment portfolio was valued at $969,483,653.
