| Validus Holdings is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. provides reinsurance coverage, insurance coverage and insurance linked securities management via four segments: Validus Reinsurance, Ltd., which is a reinsurance segment focused on treaty reinsurance; Talbot Holdings Ltd., which is a specialty insurance segment, primarily operating within the Lloyd's insurance market; Western World Insurance Group Inc., which is a specialty excess and surplus lines insurance segment; and AlphaCat Managers, Ltd., which is an investment adviser, managing capital for third parties and Co. in insurance linked securities and other property catastrophe and specialty reinsurance investments.
